組成Borrowed from French basque, the same name as the Basque people. Further back it is Gascon Occitan basc, from Latin Vasco, Vascones — a pre-Roman tribe of the Atlantic and Pyrenean country who are ancestors of today’s Basques. The garment was named after that people and their dress.
