1. 1

As a verb, to bash something means to hit it hard and roughly, often causing damage ('he bashed his knee on the table'). As a noun, a bash is an informal word for a fun, lively party ('we're throwing a birthday bash'). As a verb again, to bash someone or something, especially in the news or online, means to criticize them and publicly. If you work with computers, you may also meet 'Bash' with a capital letter - a common program used to type commands on Linux and Mac computers; it's an unrelated, separate use of the same spelling.
