The Barbarians are a rugby union team based in Britain. They are not a normal club that plays in a league every week. They invite strong players from Britain and from other countries to wear the famous black-and-white striped shirt for one match, or a short tour. Teams that visit Britain often play against them. The idea is open, entertaining rugby, not just winning in an ugly way. People sometimes call them the Baa-Baas. The name comes from barbarian, but here it is a proud team name, not an insult. Though actually, because they pick players by invitation, the side you see one Saturday may look quite different the next time.
