1. 1

A bap is a round, soft bread roll. You split it and put bacon, cheese, or a burger inside. The word is at home in Scottish English and in parts of northern Britain. Though actually, Britain has a whole tray of local words for almost the same thing — roll, bun, cob, barm — and bakers do not all agree what a 'proper' bap must look like. Some are floury on top, some are pale and very soft, some are large enough for breakfast. It is not a long baguette and not a hard crusty roll. In Taiwan you will not see bap on a menu; if you meet it in a British story or café, picture a soft round bun.

組成Originally Scottish English. The bread word has no known origin. (There is a separate little sound-word bap, like a light hit, that copies the sound. That is not this bread.)
