Bangui is the capital city of the Central African Republic, a country in the middle of Africa. It sits on the north bank of a wide river. In English the city is Bangui and the river is usually called the Ubangi — two shapes of the same name. You use it like any city name: born in Bangui, a flight to Bangui, news from Bangui. Write it with a capital B. It has no extra everyday meaning; it is not a thing you can buy or a kind of food. In Taiwan you mainly meet it on maps, in geography class, and in world news, not in small talk.
班吉(中非共和國首都)
組成From French Oubangui. The city sits on the northern bank of the Ubangi River, so it took the river’s name. The river name comes from Bangi, a local language: it named the rapids beside the old settlement.
同家族的字
- Ubangithe river the city stands on; Bangui is the French form of that river name
