Bangkok is the capital city of Thailand and its main port. Visitors remember it for temples, palaces, boats on the river, and streets that never seem to sleep. English has used this name for a long time, taken from Thai. Though actually, Thai people in daily life more often call their capital Krung Thep; Bangkok is the older name that other languages kept. Stress the second half: bang-KOK. You may also meet the name as a label on things that come from the city, but the meaning you need is the city itself.
曼谷(泰國首都;泰文日常更常稱 Krung Thep,但華語一律說曼谷)
組成Borrowed from Thai บางกอก (baang-gɔ̀ɔk). It is a place name taken whole, not built from English pieces.
