Bali is an island in Indonesia, just east of Java. People know it for beaches, temples, dance, and music. Most people who live there follow Hindu traditions, which is unusual in a country that is mostly Muslim. Tourists have gone there for a long time. In 2002, bombs at two nightclubs killed more than 200 people, many of them young visitors on holiday — a wound the island still remembers. Though actually, Bali is also a place-name in Taiwan: 八里, a district in New . That is a completely different place that only looks the same in English letters.
峇里島(台灣這樣寫;中國大陸寫「巴厘島」)
組成The name comes from Balinese. Scholars are not sure of the older story: it may go back to Sanskrit for “island of offerings” or “island of waves,” but that is a probably, not a fact we can nail down. It is not from the Chinese name 八里.
