Baldy is a casual, teasing name for a person with little or no hair on their head. Friends may say it with a grin; a stranger who says it can sound rude. You hear it in speech, not in careful writing. It is the sort of word children shout, or a nickname a bald man might use for himself, to get there first. It does not try to be polite. If you need a kind phrase, say “a bald man” instead. Though actually, some people wear “baldy” as a joke on purpose, the way you might call a tall friend “shorty” — whether it stings depends on who is talking and whether they are allowed.
