In English, Bahasa is a short way of talking about the official language of Indonesia (Bahasa Indonesia) or of Malaysia (Bahasa Malaysia, also called Bahasa Melayu). Though actually, in Indonesian and Malay the word bahasa just means “language”, so Bahasa Indonesia is simply “Indonesian language”. English speakers sometimes say Bahasa alone and mean Indonesian, which is a bit loose. The two official languages are close cousins, and people from the two countries can often understand each other, but they are not one identical thing.

    印尼語/馬來語(Bahasa 在當地就是「語言」;台灣一般直接說印尼語、馬來語)
