The Bahamas is a country of many islands in the Atlantic Ocean, south-east of Florida in the United States. The capital is . People go for warm weather and beaches; visitors are a big part of the country's life. English is the official language. We say the Bahamas, with the, like the United States. A person from there is Bahamian. Dictionaries sometimes freeze an old population figure; the useful picture is a small island country, not a huge one.
組成The origin is disputed. It probably comes from Spanish baja mar, “shallow sea”, or from a Taíno name ba ha ma, “big upper middle land”, reaching English through Spanish. It does not split in English.
