A baguette is a long, thin of bread, crusty on the outside and soft inside. People think of it as French — the kind you carry under your arm on the way home from the baker. In English we mostly keep the French word; older British speakers sometimes said French stick, but that sounds dated now. You can also meet baguette for a long, thin shape of something else, like a gem cut into a little stick, but the bread is the meaning you will meet first. It is an ordinary food word, not fancy.
