A bachelor is a man who has never married. In older or more formal English, it can sound a little old-fashioned, but you still hear it in phrases like "bachelor party" (a celebration for a man before his wedding). "Bachelor" is also the name for the first university degree you earn — a "bachelor's degree," usually after about four years of study.
