Autogas is a liquid fuel used in vehicles — the kind you pump as a gas that has been made liquid under pressure (LPG), not petrol and not the city gas in a pipe. Some taxis and vans run on it because it can be cheaper and burn more than petrol. You fill it at a special pump, not the ordinary petrol one. The word is a blend of automotive and gas, and it began as a trade name, Autogas, but it is now an ordinary noun. In everyday talk people may just say LPG. It is not the same as petrol, diesel, or the “gas” Americans say when they mean petrol.
