Aural means “about the ears and hearing” — or about how well someone can understand sounds. An aural test in a language class is a listening test. Aural skills are the skills of catching words, tunes, and tiny differences by ear. It is a school-and-clinic word, a little formal; in everyday talk people more often say listening or by ear. Though actually there is a rarer second aural, from the word aura, meaning “about the feeling around a person.” You will almost always meet the hearing sense. Aural and oral sound alike in many accents, but oral is about the mouth and speaking.
