An aura is a quality or feeling that seems to sit around a person or a place, as if it were a kind of air you cannot quite see. You might speak of a calm aura in an old library, or a dangerous aura around someone who is angry. People who like mystery talk sometimes talk as if a person had a coloured light around the body; that is a stretch, and not something you can prove. In ordinary talk it is looser: it just means the mood someone gives off. Younger people on the internet, from about the early 2020s and especially around 2024, also use aura as a playful score for looking cool without trying — “that’s aura,” or “plus a thousand aura.” Older speakers usually stay with the quieter, older sense.

From Latin aura 'breeze, air', from Ancient Greek αὔρα 'breeze'.
借自拉丁文 aura「微風、空氣」，源自希臘文。
組成Borrowed from Latin aura, “a breeze, a breath of air,” from Ancient Greek αὔρα, “breeze, soft wind,” from a word for air. It does not split into English pieces. Scholars also call it a distant doublet of air, aria, east, and auster — they meet far back, not in the spelling you see.
