This is only a written short form of August, the eighth month. You put it on forms, calendars, letters, and dates: 12 Aug. 2026. In American writing people often keep the full stop; in British writing you may see Aug without it. When you speak, you say the full word August — you do not read this aloud as “aug.” It is not a different word from August; it is August in a smaller coat.
