    In grammar, attributive describes a word that sits in front of a noun and tells you more about it. In a big city, big is an attributive adjective. In a school bus, school is a noun sitting in that same front slot — we still call that an attributive use. The other common place for a describing word is after is/are, as in the city is big. Though actually, not every adjective is happy in both places: you can say the main idea, but you cannot really say the idea is main. Some textbooks also use attributive as a noun: an attributive. This is a teacher’s word; meet the idea long before they meet the name.
