Saying who created something, or who is responsible for something — giving credit to the right person. In writing, 'attribution' means naming the author or source of a quote, photo, or idea, so you're not claiming someone else's work as your own. It's also used more generally for saying what caused something — 'attribution of blame' means deciding who is at fault.
