An ashram is a place where Hindus live together, often away from ordinary town life, to pray, study, and follow a simple shared way of living. A teacher, a guru, may lead it. Some ashrams welcome visitors who stay for a while; some are quiet and closed. English borrowed the word with yoga and Indian religion, so you will also hear it for a Hindu-inspired retreat even outside India. Though actually it is not the same as a temple — a temple is mainly for worship — and it is not a Christian monastery either, even if the daily rhythm can look similar from the outside. Use it for this kind of community, not as a cute name for any quiet house.
