    This word means going up, especially rising to something important - a higher position, a title, or power. You might read 'his ascension to the throne' or 'her ascension to CEO'. It sounds a little formal and grand; you would not use it for climbing . There is also a religious meaning with a capital letter: the Ascension is the Christian belief that Jesus rose up to heaven, and some churches celebrate this on Ascension Day.
