An articulated vehicle is made of two (or more) parts with a joint in the middle, so the whole thing can bend when it turns. The front part pulls; the back part follows. In British English, an articulated — people also say artic — is a long truck of this kind. Cities use articulated buses too, the long buses that look like two buses joined. The idea is simple: a joint, like a knuckle, so a long vehicle can go round a corner. In everyday American English people more often say tractor-trailer or semi for the truck. This sense is about vehicles, not about speaking clearly.
