    Arthur is the name of a king in old British stories. In those tales he is King Arthur: he sits with his knights at a round table, he has a wizard called , and he has a famous sword. People have told these stories for more than a thousand years. We do not know if a real Arthur ever lived, and scholars do not all agree. The stories are Britain's great legend — like a set of fairy tales that grown-ups still care about — and they keep coming back in books and films. Arthur is also a normal first name for a man or boy. When people say “King Arthur”, they mean this story-king, not a king on the news.

組成From Middle English Arthure, from Medieval Latin Arthurus, probably from Middle Welsh arth, “bear”. Other guesses include Old Welsh arth “bear” plus ur “man”, or a Latin name Artorius; scholars do not agree.
