In the old Greek stories, Artemis is the goddess of hunting, of wild animals, and of the Moon. She is usually a young woman with a bow, running in the woods, who does not marry and who protects girls as well as the hunt. The Romans told almost the same story, but they called her Diana — not a different goddess with a new life, but the Roman name for the same kind of figure. You will meet Artemis in myths, in poems, and in pictures of the Moon and the hunt. It is a proper name, so it takes a capital letter. Later people have borrowed the name for other things (ships, programmes, stories), but those are just using the old name; they are not extra goddesses. Though actually, Greek religion was not one tidy book: local places told her story with small differences, and scholars still argue about where the name itself first came from.
組成A learned borrowing of the Ancient Greek name Ἄρτεμις (Artemis). Where that Greek name came from is uncertain.
