    Though the tidy line you may see next to this word describes a process, arbitrageur is the person who does that process, not the process itself. An arbitrageur buys something — currency, shares, raw materials — in one place and sells it immediately in another, to take the difference in prices as profit. The activity is arbitrage; the trader is the arbitrageur. The word looks French, and English speakers use it in finance. It is a specialist label — you will not hear it at the dinner table. Though actually, the French themselves more often say arbitragiste; English built this one with a French-looking ending.
