Arable is about land you can plough and grow crops on — wheat, rice, vegetables — as opposed to land that is too rocky, too wet, or kept for grass and animals. You mostly meet it in arable land or arable farming. It is a farm-and-geography word, a little formal; in ordinary talk people often just say or land for crops. As a noun, arable can mean that kind of land itself. It does not mean the crops are already there — only that the ground can take a plough. An arable farmer grows crops, as opposed to keeping animals for meat or milk.

組成From Latin arābilis: arō “to plough” + -bilis “able to be,” so “able to be ploughed.” English took it through French.
