- 1恰如其分地、貼切地(最常見是 aptly named:名字取得很貼切)
Aptly means “in a way that fits very well”: the name, the description, or the phrase seems right, almost as if it were chosen on purpose. We meet it most often in chunks like aptly named, aptly described, aptly called, aptly put. If a very tall basketball player is nicknamed Tower, you might say he is aptly named. The word does not mean “quickly”, and it is not just a fancy “very”, though a remark that is aptly put is often both fitting and a bit smart. It is a little more formal than “rightly” or “fittingly”; you will see it in writing and hear it from teachers and news presenters more than in playground talk.
From the word’s history
From apt + -ly.
apt(恰當的)加 -ly(…地)。
組成From apt + -ly. Apt means “fitting, suitable”; -ly turns that into “in that manner”.
