You do something apprehensively when you are worried or nervous about what is coming — a test, a visit to the dentist, a talk you have to give, news you have not heard yet. The feeling looks forward: the trouble is not here yet, but you can already feel it. It is a fairly ordinary adverb in stories and everyday description, a little more formal than . Though actually, it is not comprehensively (that means “fully, covering everything”), and it is not about the police catching a thief — even though the verb apprehend can mean that. In real use, apprehensively almost always means “in a worried way.”
