To append something is to add it onto a piece of writing, usually at the end: a note appended to a letter, extra pages appended to a report. The picture behind the word is “hang this onto that,” so the new piece rides at the back rather than being worked into the middle. It is a tidy, slightly formal verb. Teachers, lawyers, and computer people use it more than friends at lunch. In computing it is everyday shop talk: you append text to a file so the old words stay and the new ones are stuck on after them. You append A to B. You do not really “append B” as if the verb meant . In casual speech, add or attach is what most people say.
組成From Latin appendere, “to hang up / hang on,” via Old French apendre, appendre and Middle English appenden: ad- (“on, upon”) + pendere (“to hang, to suspend”). Compare pendant.
