An apostate is someone who has stopped believing in a religion, or who has stopped supporting a political party or cause they once stood with. It can be a noun (he is an apostate) or an adjective (apostate views). Like apostasy, it is strong and rather formal. In religious talk it can sound like an accusation; in political talk it can mean a . Though actually, the person themselves may simply say they changed their mind — apostate is often the word used by the people they left.
組成From Late Latin apostata, from Ancient Greek ἀποστάτης (apostátēs, “rebel”), from ἀφίστημι (aphístēmi, “to withdraw, revolt”), from ἀπό (apó, “from, away”) + ἵστημι (hístēmi, “to stand”).
