Aplomb is a noun for a calm, sure way of handling something hard. When a person does a tricky thing with aplomb, they look confident and , as if the awkward moment is no trouble at all — a difficult question, an angry customer, a stage full of eyes. You will meet it almost only in the phrase with aplomb. It is a slightly formal, word: teachers, newspapers, and novels like it. Friends would more often say someone was so calm, or didn’t even blink. It is not an adverb by itself: you do not say “she spoke aplomb,” and “aplombly” is rare.
