In the old Greek stories, Aphrodite is the goddess of love, beauty, and sexual desire. Artists paint her as extremely beautiful; the famous birth story has her rising from the sea. The Romans told almost the same stories but called her Venus — not a different goddess so much as the same figure under another name, which is why exam questions love to mix them up. People still reach for her name in art, poetry, and brand names when they want the idea of love and beauty. She is not the war god, not the moon goddess, and not the planet — though the planet Venus was named after the Roman one. Capitalise it: it is a name.
組成Borrowed from Ancient Greek Aphrodítē. A famous old story ties her name to aphros, "sea foam," because of how she was born; many scholars are not sure that is the true source of the name.
