Aphoristic describes a way of speaking or writing: in short, sharp lines that sound like little pieces of wisdom, rather than in a long, careful argument. A teacher who talks in one-liners, or a book made of brief sayings, can be called aphoristic. It is the adjective that belongs with aphorism — the sentence is an aphorism; the style is aphoristic. It does not mean "about love" and it has nothing to do with Aphrodite; the words only look a little alike at the start. Used about a person, it can sound slightly , even a little dry, as if they prefer a clever line to a full explanation.
