The aorta is the largest artery in the body: the wide tube that takes blood away from the heart and starts it on its trip to the rest of you. Fresh blood leaves the left side of the heart, goes into the aorta, and the aorta rises, arches, and then runs down, sending branches toward the head, the arms, and the lower body.
The aorta主動脈 is the largest artery in the body是身體裡最大的動脈 : the wide tube that takes blood away from the heart一條把血液從心臟送出去的粗管子 and而且 starts it on its trip to the rest of you讓血液開始送往你身體其他地方的旅程。Fresh blood新鮮的血 leaves the left side of the heart離開心臟左側 goes into the aorta進入主動脈 and而且 the aorta rises, arches, and then runs down主動脈先向上、彎過去、再往下走 sending branches toward the head, the arms, and the lower body分出分支通往頭部、手臂、和身體下半部。
Though actually, students often mix this up with a vein. Arteries, including the aorta, carry blood away from the heart; veins bring it back.
Though actually不過 students often mix this up with a vein學生常把它跟靜脈搞混。Arteries, including the aorta動脈,包括主動脈在內 carry blood away from the heart把血液從心臟帶出去 veins bring it back靜脈則把血液帶回來。
Because so much blood moves through this one vessel, doctors treat serious damage to it as an emergency. You will also hear aortic as the describing word, as in the aortic valve, the little door where the aorta meets the heart.

組成借自古希臘文 aortḗ,指從心臟伸出的動脈;再往上是一個意思為「提起、舉起」的動詞。
