An AONB is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty: a stretch of countryside in the United Kingdom that officials have named as especially beautiful, so people are not free to build on it or change it in a big way. You say the letters A-O-N-B. You will see them on maps and road signs in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland. Though actually, it is not the same thing as a national park, even if the feeling is close. A British national park has a stronger organisation and more visitor machinery; an AONB is a protection label on the look of the land — hills, coast, villages — so the view does not get eaten by new houses and roads. It is British official language. American English does not use it, and Taiwan's 國家公園 or 風景區 are cousins in idea, not the same legal name.
