    A against a poison, not against just any illness. Your body can make it: special stuff in the blood that sticks to a toxin (a poison from a , a snake, a plant) and stops it working. Doctors can also give it as medicine, often made from blood that has already fought that poison — older treatments for diphtheria or used a shot of antitoxin. It is a formal, medical word. It is not an antibiotic (that fights living ) and it is not every kind of antidote (any fix for a poison). An antitoxin is specifically against a toxin. You meet it in science class and hospitals, not in chat.
