Antioch is a place name, not a kind of thing. The famous Antioch was a city in what is now southern Turkey, also known today as Antakya. It was built in 301 BC and soon became famous for its buildings and its trade. In 64 BC it became the eastern capital of the Roman Empire. It was one of the great cities of the old Greek and Roman world, a mix of peoples and languages. In early Christian history it matters a lot: followers of Jesus were first called Christians there. There was more than one Antioch — kings named several cities after the same family name, Antiochus — so an old book can mean a different town with the same name. The old city later shrank; the city on that spot today is Antakya. Later, towns in the United States took the name too, copying the old famous one, especially because of the church history. In English it is always a name: you say in Antioch, never an antioch.
組成The name came into English from Middle English Antioche, from Old French Antioche, from Latin Antiochīa, from Ancient Greek Antiókheia. That was built from the man's name Antiochus plus a place-name ending, after the father of Seleucus I, the general of Alexander who founded the Seleucid empire. Later kings reused the name for other cities. Much later, towns in the United States copied it from the famous old city, which had been an important early Christian centre.
