Antimony is a chemical element. It is a silver-white metal that looks a little shiny, but it breaks easily — much more easily than iron. You will meet the name in science class. Its symbol is Sb, which does not match the English word; that symbol comes from an older Latin name, stibium. People often combine antimony with other metals to make them harder, and some compounds of it are used to slow fire in plastics and cloth. It can be poisonous if you take in too much, so it is not something you handle for fun. You will almost never hear this word outside science, mining, or old medicine books. Older doctors once used it as a drug; that is history, not a tip.
組成This English word does not split into anti- + something, even though it looks as if it might. It comes from Medieval Latin antimonium, already written in the 11th century. The anti- at the front is a lookalike, not the usual English prefix meaning against.
