Antigone is a young woman in ancient Greek story, the daughter of Oedipus. After her two brothers kill each other in a war for Thebes, King Creon buries one with honour and orders that the other, Polynices, be left unburied — a cruel punishment in that world, because the dead were owed burial as a religious duty.
