Behaviour that looks strange, funny, silly, or — clowning, showing off, knocking things over on purpose, making a scene. A parent might laugh at a toddler’s antics; a teacher who is tired of them is not laughing. News can talk about a politician’s antics when the behaviour looks childish. The tone slides: fond, or fed up, depending who is speaking. Though actually, English almost always uses the plural. Antics is the normal word; a single antic exists but sounds old or stiff. It does not mean antique (old and valuable), even if the older history of the word sits near grotesque old decorations.
組成From older English antic, a grotesque pose or clownish trick, from Italian antico “ancient.” We almost always use the plural antics.
