An anthologist is a person who chooses pieces by different writers — poems, stories, songs, essays — and puts them together in one book. That book is the anthology; the anthologist is the person who makes it. You will see the word on book covers and in literary talk more than in daily conversation. The ending -ist here means “the person whose work this is,” as in artist or scientist. Though actually, the job is not just copying. A good anthologist decides what to leave out, how to order the pieces, and often writes a short introduction to help the reader.
