A weak, balloon-like bulge on the wall of a blood vessel, swollen with blood. Many people have a small one and never feel it. The danger is that it can burst — then you bleed inside, and that can kill you, especially if it is in the brain or on the , the big vessel that leaves the heart. Doctors may only watch a small, quiet aneurysm; they operate when it is large or likely to break. You may still meet the older spelling aneurism, but aneurysm is the usual one now. It is a hospital and news-story word, not a word for a or a clot.
組成From Ancient Greek aneúrusma, 'a widening,' from aneurúnō, 'to widen,' from aná (up) + eurús (wide).
