If something is anathema to you, it goes against what you believe so deeply that you cannot accept it. English almost always uses this shape: X is anathema to Y. It is a noun, even though it sits where an adjective might sit in Chinese. We do not say an anathema idea or very anathema. Though actually, the word is older and harsher than I really dislike this. It came from the church: a solemn curse, a person or thing handed over to damnation. Religious writing still uses that sense. In newspapers and essays the church meaning has mostly , and educated speakers use it for a strong moral no. It sounds formal. You will not hear it much from children; you will meet it when someone wants to say this is against everything I stand for in one heavy word.
組成From Greek ana- (up) + tithēmi (to put, to set): originally something set up as an offering, later something handed over to a curse. English borrowed it from Late Latin anathema.
