Amplification means making something bigger, louder, or stronger. It's most often used for sound — a guitar needs "amplification" (through an ) to be loud enough for a concert. It can also be used more generally, in writing or discussion, to mean making something clearer or stronger by adding more detail: "the report needed some amplification on that point," meaning it needed more explanation.
