Amniocentesis is a medical test done while a baby is still in the womb. A doctor takes a little of the liquid around the baby (the “waters”) and checks it for some diseases or genetic problems. It is offered more often when there is a higher chance of a problem, for example with older mothers, but it is a choice, not a rule. The word is long and clinical; in speech people often it to amnio. It is not the same as an ultrasound picture, and it is not the same as ending a pregnancy — it is a test. There is a small risk, which doctors explain before anyone agrees.
羊膜穿刺;台灣常說羊水檢查
