    The amero is not money you can hold. It is an idea: that the United States, Canada, and Mexico might one day share one unit of money, the way many European countries share the euro. That imagined money is called the amero. A Canadian politician, Herb Grubel, coined the name in 1999. You will see it in talk about trade and currency, and sometimes in rather internet stories about a secret North American money. Though actually, no government has issued an amero; it has stayed a proposal and a talking point. It is a unit in a thought experiment, not a coin in your pocket. Do not mix it up with Amero as a family name — that is a different word.
