An amalgamation is when two or more things - often companies, groups, or organizations - are combined into one single thing. It's a formal word, often used in business and news, similar to "merger", but it can also describe any mixing together of different things into a new whole, like an amalgamation of different music styles or cultures.

組成amalgamate (to combine into one) + -ion (noun-forming suffix). "Amalgamate" comes from "amalgam", a mixture of metals, especially mercury with another metal.
