Alopecia is a medical word for losing some or all of your hair. It can mean a few round bald patches, all over, losing all the hair on the head, and sometimes hair on the body too. Doctors use this word; friends more often say hair loss or going bald. It is not a rude word — it is just clinical. Though actually, headlines may say “alopecia” for any sudden hair loss, even when the exact type has a longer name, such as alopecia areata. It is a condition, not a you “catch” in the ordinary sense, and it does not mean a person is unhealthy in every other way.

組成Borrowed from Latin alōpecia, from Ancient Greek alōpekía, “fox-mange”, from alṓpēx, “fox”, plus a Greek ending used in names of illnesses. It was named after the patchy fur loss people saw in foxes.
