Alleviation is the noun for that lightening: the act of making something less painful or less hard to deal with, or the result when that happens. Writers talk about the alleviation of pain, of poverty, of traffic. It is a formal, mostly written word. In everyday talk, people almost always use the verb instead: “This should help” or “This should alleviate the pain,” not “This will bring alleviation.” Though actually, you will still meet the noun in news, charity writing, and medical English, where one noun is handy. Same idea as alleviate — a , not always a full cure.
