    All-powerful means having complete power or control — nothing sits above you. People say it of gods, of a government, of a boss, sometimes of a feeling (an all-powerful need). It is a serious, slightly word. In religion it sits near talk of a god who can do anything. In it can be criticism: an all-powerful leader is one who cannot be checked. Though actually speakers also use it with a dry smile for things that are not people at all — money is all-powerful — meaning it seems to decide everything. Powerful on its own can mean strong; all-powerful means the power is complete, not shared.

    all-powerful 指權力完全，上面沒有任何人可以壓過你。它可以形容神、政府、老闆，偶爾也說某種感覺，放在名詞前面最常見，例如「an all-powerful leader」。放在政治上常帶批評，指一個沒有人能制衡的領導人。有時也會用在不是人的東西上，帶點苦笑，像「money is all-powerful」，意思是錢好像什麼都能決定。它和 powerful 不同：powerful 只說力量強，all-powerful 說的是權力完整，沒有分享。
