    All-out means you put in everything you have — a lot of energy, and sometimes a lot of anger. Nothing is held back. An all-out effort, an all-out attack, an all-out war. It can describe the action (an all-out campaign) or work like a how-word: go all-out to win. It is fairly strong, used in news, sport, and everyday talk. It is not gentle. Though actually the feeling changes with the room: in sport, go all-out is praise (you tried your hardest); in the news, all-out war is a warning that things have gone as far as they can. It is not the same as all out of, which means you have none left (all out of milk).

    all-out 的意思是把手上所有的力氣都用上，有時還夾帶很多怒氣，什麼都不留。它可以形容一件事，形成「an all-out ＿＿」，像 an all-out effort（全力以赴的努力）、an all-out attack（全面攻擊）、an all-out war（全面戰爭）；也可以像副詞一樣修飾動作，例如 go all-out to win（全力去贏）。它的語氣很強，常見於新聞、體育和日常談話，口氣並不溫和。

    語境不同，意思也跟著變：運動場上說 go all-out 是讚美，表示盡力了；新聞裡說 all-out war 則是警告，表示事情已經到了極限。另有一個 all out of，意思是已經用完、沒有了，例如 all out of milk（牛奶喝完了）。
